Music is taught throughout the School, from Foundation Stage to Year 3, covering all aspects of the National Curriculum. The music curriculum offers opportunities for the children to explore their thoughts, ideas and feelings through music, and is comprised of four main components: Performance, Composition and Creative Development, Response and Listening. Glenhurst also takes part in the local initiative, Music Fusion, which encourages participation and listening to a wide range of music and learning early compositional skills. Years 2 and 3 learn to play the recorder as part of their music curriculum, and private tuition is also offered in piano, violin, woodwind, brass, guitar and singing.
There is always a themed week in the autumn
term, varying between a Book Week, Performing Arts Week
or Arts and Craft Week where the children take part in many
specialized activities, have visiting performers or artists
in school, and go on relevant out of school visits.
Drama and performance skills are taught in class groups on a weekly basis, and the children take it in turns to perform short plays or musical performances in class assemblies each Friday, to which parents are invited. Glenhurst also offers an extra-curricular Drama Club on Mondays from 3.45pm to 4.30pm, currently taught by Mrs Karen Lonergan.

Art & Crafts
Children demonstrate their creative skills through the use of a wide range of materials, including painting, model making, printing, pottery and sewing. Pictures, paintings and models form an integral part of all topics. Children also learn to use computer art programmes. The autumn and spring terms feature themed weeks during which the children will meet guest speakers, artists and performers, take part in visits and join in with a range of activities.
