Welcome to the Nursery and Pre-School
We care for children from 3 months old to 5 years old, from 8.00am to 6.00pm. We are open for 50 weeks of the year, giving you a choice of year round or term time only care and education. We are committed to the highest standards of childcare in a happy atmosphere where children can develop self confidence through play. We follow the framework of Birth To Three Matters and the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Glenhurst is well stocked with large play equipment, art and craft materials, toys and books to support the carefully planned Nursery and Pre-School curriculum within the Birth To Three Matters framework and the Early Years Curriculum.
The Nursery
The Nursery caters for three groups of children aged from 3 months to 1 year, from 1 to 2 years old, and from 2 to 3 years old, each with their own team of Nursery staff. The Nursery building is brand new and purpose-built, with a layout that provides the children with lots of space, light and room for activity and quiet areas. There is a sleep room, a covered veranda, a playground with lots of cars, trikes and scooters and a large enclosed garden, all of which are used by our children daily for play and learning. We intend that your children should enjoy the best possible start in life. Glenhurst follows the Birth To Three Matters framework which focuses on four areas of a child's early development. Please see our Birth to 3 Matters page for full details of the four areas of development.
The Pre-School
The Pre-School caters for children aged from 3 to 4½ or 5 years old, and is based in a large, bright classroom within the main house with their own team of Pre-School staff. The children have access to the playground and garden, to an adjacent art room for arts and crafts, and to the dining room for cookery lessons. They use ICT equipment regularly, including the interactive whiteboard. The main classroom is divided into distinct areas: the quiet area which includes the Library, the computer and tables for writing and number skills, the soft play and tumble area for physical development, construction sets for motor skills and coordination, the home corner for role play and language development, the indoor sand and water areas for imaginative play and science work, the art area for creative work, the rest area, and large spaces for music time, dance and drama. Glenhurst Pre-School covers all aspects required by the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals and the National Curriculum. The Foundation Stage is divided into six areas of learning. Please see our Early Years Curriculum page for full details of the six areas of learning.
Visitors to the Nursery
Your child will meet a variety of interesting people throughout the year, including the children's librarian, doctors, dentists, the Fire Brigade, authors, musicians and other entertainers.
