Welcome to the Nursery
We care for children from 3 months old to 2 years 9 months in the Nursery, from 7.45am to 6.00pm. We are open for 50 weeks of the year and we offer a choice of year round or term time only care and education. We are committed to the highest standards of childcare in a happy atmosphere where children can develop self confidence through play. Glenhurst is well stocked with large play equipment, art and craft materials, toys and books to support the carefully planned Nursery curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for children aged 0 to 5.
The Nursery classes are to be found in the purpose-built Nursery building, which is light and colourful and which also benefits from a large covered veranda, enabling children to play and learn outside even in wet weather. Inside you will find children’s toilets and a cloakroom, a baby changing room, a sleep room and a spacious, open-plan classroom with under-floor heating.
The layout provides the children with supervised and regular access to the playground and garden both for free play and for learning. Glenhurst operates a “free flow” play system which means that children move from a soft play, book and rest area to other areas to participate in cookery, arts and crafts, water, sand and messy play, and to the garden and playground for physical play and games, supervised and led by qualified staff at all times. Activities are planned to develop babies and toddlers’ exploration and self-confidence, and include music with instruments, messy play, arts and crafts and simple cookery. The staff ratio in the Nursery is 1:3 for children up to the age of 2, and 1:4 for children aged 2 to 3 years.
The Nursery
The Early Years Foundation Stage groups child development into 4 overlapping age ranges:
- 3 months to 11 months
- 8 months to 20 months
- 16 months to 26 months
- 22 months to 36 months
Each age group is cared for by fully qualified and experienced Nursery Practitioners. The Nursery building is new and purpose-built, with a layout that provides the children with lots of room for both activity and quiet areas. There is a sleep room, a covered veranda, a playground with lots of trikes, Little Tikes cars and scooters, an outside chalkboard, a Wendy House and a lawn with play equipment, all of which are used by our children daily for play and learning.
More information on each age group can be found on our Nursery Age Groups page.
We intend that all children should enjoy the best possible start in life. Glenhurst follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which focuses on four areas of a child's early development. Full details of the four areas of a child's early development can be found on our EYFSC page.
From the four areas of a child's early development, the Learning and Development area covers six further areas of learning, and full details of these can also be found on our EYFSC page.
