Welcome to the Pre-School
We care for children aged 2 years 9 months to school age in the Pre-School, from 8.00am to 6.00pm. We are open for 50 weeks of the year and we offer a choice of year round or term time only care and education. We are committed to the highest standards of childcare in a happy atmosphere where children can develop self confidence through play. Glenhurst is well stocked with large play equipment, art and craft materials, toys and books to support the carefully planned Nursery curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for children aged 0 to 5.
The Pre-School
The Early Years Foundation Stage groups child development into 2 overlapping age ranges:
- 30 months to 50 months
- 40 months to 60 months
Each age group is cared for by fully qualified and experienced Pre-School Practitioners. The Pre-School is based in a spacious and bright classroom within the main house.
The main Pre-School classroom is used for circle time, music, dance and drama, and also has a home corner and dressing up area for role play and language development. There are also construction sets for motor skills and coordination, and other toys, games and puzzles. The Art Room is next to the main classroom and is used daily for all kinds of arts and crafts, and the Dining Room is used not only for snacks and lunches but also for cookery and science. The Library upstairs is a quiet area for story time, music and singing, while the adjacent upstairs classrooms are used for phonics, writing, number work and I.C.T. There is also an interactive whiteboard. The children have access to the secure playground and garden at all times, where there is a playground with lots of trikes, Little Tikes cars, scooters and balance bikes. There is a Wendy House, an outside chalk board, a lawn with play equipment and a covered veranda for water and sand play.
More information on each age group can be found on our Pre-School Age Groups page.
We intend that all children should enjoy the best possible start in life. Glenhurst follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which focuses on four areas of a child's early development. Full details of the four areas of a child's early development can be found on our EYFSC page.
From the four areas of a child's early development, the Learning and Development area covers six further areas of learning, and full details of these can also be found on our EYFSC page.
