Welcome to the Rising 3 Class and Pre-School
We care for children aged 2 years 9 months to school age in the Rising 3 Class and in the Pre-School, from 7.45am to 6.00pm. We are open for 50 weeks of the year and we offer a choice of year round or term time only care and education. We are committed to the highest standards of childcare in a happy atmosphere where children can develop self confidence through play. Glenhurst is well stocked with large play equipment, art and craft materials, toys and books to support the carefully planned Nursery curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for children aged 0 to 5.
The Rising 3 Class is based is a spacious, ground floor room in the main building. Children with Autumn birthdays may spend a year in the Rising 3 Class before moving to the Pre-School Class for their final year at Glenhurst, whereas a child who turns 3 in the summer months will move straight from Nursery to the Pre-School Class. There is direct access to an Art & Craft room and the dining room, which may also be used for cookery or small group work. Within the class base is a Home Corner and role play area, a Book Area, tables for puzzles, games and mark making. This room is also used for small world activities and construction. The Rising 3 children also take part in group work in the upstairs classrooms and library. The staff ratio in the Rising 3 class is 1:4 until the age of 3, and then 1: 8 from the age of 3.
Pre-School is for 3 and 4 year old children, and the two classes are based in upstairs classrooms of the main building. One classroom is a literacy room with an interactive whiteboard, toys, games and puzzles to support the "Letters and Sounds" programme. There is also an adjoining library, which is also used for drama and music. The other classroom is a numbers room, with a computer and activities to support number work. Science equipment, globes and maps are also used in this room to support the area of knowledge and understanding of the world. Pre-School children move between each room for activities, and also use the downstairs Art & Craft room and the Rising 3 classroom for games and group work. The Pre-School has a musical instrument box, which is used daily to accompany songs and to make music. The staff ratio in the Pre-School is 1:8.
The Early Years Foundation Stage groups child development into 2 overlapping age ranges:
- 30 months to 50 months
- 40 months to 60 months
Each age group is cared for by fully qualified and experienced Practitioners.
The Rising 3 and Pre-School children have access to the secure playground and garden at all times, where there is a playground with lots of trikes, Little Tikes cars, scooters and balance bikes. There is a Wendy House, an outside chalk board, a lawn with play equipment and a covered veranda for water and sand play.
More information on each age group can be found on our R3/Pre-School Age Groups page.
We intend that all children should enjoy the best possible start in life. Glenhurst follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which focuses on four areas of a child's early development. Full details of the four areas of a child's early development can be found on our EYFSC page.
From the four areas of a child's early development, the Learning and Development area covers six further areas of learning, and full details of these can also be found on our EYFSC page.
